Leaping from strength to strength

leap design team summer 2021

We’re proud to announce that we’ve just recorded our best performing year to date since Matt founded Leap in 2004, thanks to an exciting portfolio of recent projects and the hard work of our brilliant team.

The team has delivered a variety of innovative projects with clients including Barnardo’s and Ikea, The Ocean Race and Divine Chocolate – despite the exceptional challenges presented by the pandemic. 2021 is also shaping up to be a bumper year for business.

In light of this trajectory, we’ve made some changes to refresh the senior leadership team here, including Nathan Lance moving up to the position of creative director, Helen Johnston becoming head of client services, Rebecca Carlyon returning from maternity leave to the more focused role of studio manager, and Claire Pryor adding sustainability manager to her finance manager responsibilities.

Simon Thomason, managing director, says: “We’re very proud to have successfully navigated the complexities of the last year, continuing to deliver meaningful work with a positive environmental and social impact – it’s a huge testament to our talented team and thanks to the great bunch of clients who share our enthusiasm for forward-thinking business with sustainability at its core.”

With a talented and experienced team in place, Leap’s founder Matt Hocking has been afforded the freedom and flexibility to take a sabbatical this summer. He’s spending this time reinvesting his knowledge and expertise back into the creative communities – intending to lead from the front, share his skills, and lobby officials to inspire positive and progressive change within the design industry. Matt will return to the studio in October, taking on the new role of Creative Sustainability Officer (CSO).

For over 17 years Leap has been ahead of the environmental conversation, championing design for change, leading by example and sharing solutions with our contemporaries. It’s really exciting to now feel a swell of energy around the role that design can play in shaping sustainable business practises, and inspiring change in the industry.
