Escape The City, the home of fulfilling work, have recently recognised Leap as one of the top 100 companies to escape to in 2019 in their Escape100 awards. Their mission is to help one million people to do work that they love, because when people are doing work that matters to them, they can change the world. They offer a job search service and run courses that help people to up-skill for a career change or start their own business.

“Life is short. Do work that matters to you.”

What is Escape100?

Escape100 is Escape The City’s campaign to find the best companies to work for (or, to escape to) in 2019.  It’s a recognition of the fact that many people, in particular young people and graduates, are looking for more fulfilment and greater meaning in their working lives. An enormous 13,000 organisations were nominated but only 2,000 organisations were selected to take part and be judged, and we’re very proud to have been judged to be in the top 100. It’s another trophy on the shelf here at the studio that celebrates what a great and fulfilling place Leap is to work.

How it was Judged

Organisations were judged against the following six criteria (with our score following in italics):

  • Impact

This was the foundation of the judging criteria, with an organisation’s mission and planet scores being multiplied by its impact – the mission reaching farther and the environmental impact being multiplied by its scale. Leap were deemed to be Local (a single office).

  • Planet

Does the organization have a positive impact upon the planet? Are they not only conscious of, but working towards solutions to the environmental and climate challenges that we all face? Leap achieved a score of 15.

  • Mission

What is the organisation’s reason for being? Is it selling a product or providing a service, or is it a charity? Or, does it fall somewhere in the middle by selling a product or service that address a wider social or environmental issue? Organisations were judged against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Framework (of 17 key issues which most urgently need to be addressed for a socially and environmentally sustainable world). We scored 12.

  • People

Would current employees recommend their organisation as a place to work? You can be doing great work, but are you creating an engaging and fulfilling environment? Employees in the 2000 organisations being judged were sent an anonymous link and asked to rate their workplace on a scale of 1-10. We scored 25.

  • Innovation

The world needs organisations to do things differently. How unique is their key concept and will it inspire the world and spark progress? We achieved a score of 20.

  • B-Corp Status

Defined as the ultimate seal of approval for a modern business. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B-Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good. As a certified B-Corp, we scored 20 (top marks).

Our overall score was 84.5/200 (with an employee rating of 8.8/10 from five reviews).
