How to keep your site safe for customers and boost business.

Get Your Site Secure for October

Do you know if your website has a secure connection to protect your customers?

Security of users’ information has become increasingly critical due to data breach attempts becoming more commonplace, for both small and large businesses.

In October, Google is rolling out an update to its Google Chrome web browser that will let users know when on a standard website connection (http), that the connection is not secure. This will effect all sites with a text input such as a contact form, newsletter sign up or similar. Google Chrome is currently used by more than 60% of internet users, so if you’re not ready for these changes then it could impact your bottom line.

Will customers want to share information with you knowing it is potentially not secure?

So, how can you make sure your website appears secure always? The answer is simple – install a SSL certificate on your website.

What is SSL?

An SSL is a security measure that when installed on a web server activates the https protocol, which displays a green padlock in the web browser. This allows for an encrypted connection from the web server your site is hosted on to the browser your customer is using.

SSLs are most commonly used to protect card transactions, as well as securing data transfers and logins. More recently https has started to become the internet standard for all websites to protect peoples’ private information no matter where they are. One of the reasons for this is the large growth in public Wifi usage, where data can be easily intercepted and stolen over non-secure connections.

There are multiple types of SSL Certificates.

You can read up on the types of SSL here.
