Why We Love Being Creatives In Cornwall

By 23rd March 2018Studio News

As creative’s we seek inspiration from all sources.

Whether it’s found in-house our design studio – home to the team’s collection of quirky props, cosmic wall art and colour coded post-it notes (key for any creative space) – or discovered outside in the vibrant streets of our Cornish towns, cafes or beaches. Inspiration can be sought all around and let’s face it, for a creative, it doesn’t get much better than being set up in Cornwall.

Since the birth of Leap back in 2004, we’ve been busy creating unique, pioneering projects with a combination of Cornwalls favourite restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions, aswell as a few of the counties most inspiring change makers (ocean guardians Surfers Against Sewage and global hero Shelter Box).

With a deep love and appreciation for our Cornish roots, we thought we’d share with you a few of the reasons why as a design studio we enjoy living in Cornwall and how Cornwall has helped us improve as creatives, people and role models for environmental and social change.

Good Local Food

We don’t just find inspiration with our eyes, we use all our senses available, including our taste buds. Lucky for us, Cornwall is brimming with delicious dining hot spots, with most places serving fresh local produce, sourced from family-run farms and fisheries – perfect fuel to recharge our busy minds. When we’re not tucking into a traditional Cornish pasty or devouring a fish supper from the local chippy, one of our all-time favourite places to visit is Sam’s Cornwall who are best known for their good food, good places and good people. We had fun working with the team at Sam’s on re-vamping their brand and website to adapt the ‘Samstyle’ way of life. Thinking about visiting? Make sure to check out the print work on their super awesome menu and smooth Cornish lager, designed by us here at Leap.

Things To Do

Getting out and about works wonders for our creative minds, and plus if we don’t try new things, how can we develop new ideas? That’s what makes Cornwall so great, it’s a haven for those looking to explore and try new experiences. One day you could be sampling the finest ales at St Austell Brewery and the next, you may find yourself walking in paradise at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. As well as being great days out, we’ve had the incredible honour of collaborating with both Cornish icons on a combination of branding, print and design, including a ‘Passport to Beer’ guide for St Austell Brewery and an interactive display for Heligan (which brung home the gold at the Hampton Court Flower Show).

Places To Stay

Imagine falling asleep listening to the sounds of the sea,  or getting some well-deserved headspace in a cosy cottage. Working in the creative industry, it can sometimes send our minds into overdrive; that’s why we like to take a little time out from our busy schedules to help re-balance our zen. Thankfully for us, we don’t have to stray very far. Due to our idyllic location, Cornwall comes well equipped with luxury beach retreats, bustling holiday parks, and rural sanctuarys that offer a bit of escapism to help you unwind and recharge from everyday life. We’ve spent some time assisting on areas such as branding, website design and eco hosting with the folks over at Tresanton Hotel, Bosinver and Pentewan Sands, each differing from contemporary to rustic accommodation, but nevertheless providing unique, relaxing stays in Cornwall.

We maybe biased, but to us Cornwall is the perfect location to absorb inspiration and create positive, purposeful projects that allow us to not only explore our creativity, but to create collaborations that benefit us, the people and the planet.
