Bruichladdich have been distilling whisky on the Hebridian island of Islay since 1881. 140 years later they are producing award winning scotch whiskies and gin with a focus on provenance, transparency, community and sustainability, and are doing so as a certified B Corp. They are one of the only distilleries in the world to achieve B Corp certification.
Bruichladdich briefed us to create their first ever impact report this year after their first year of certification. They wanted to publish it as COP26 was taking place in Glasgow, with the eyes of the world on Scotland, and the thoughts of the world on addressing the climate crisis, taking the opportunity to bolster their reputation as a sustainable business and as a member of the B Corp community.
Our task was to create a digestible report for consumers to read and be inspired to learn more about their ongoing sustainability work – giving a voice to both the whisky and gin arms of the business. As Islay’s largest private employer, and with many more islanders relying on the distillery indirectly (the distillery sources over 50% of its annual requirements from 21 different local farms), it was important that the document spoke to Bruichladdich’s stakeholders, too.
We worked with Bruichladdich to create a confident and compelling impact report that celebrated Bruichladdich Distillery’s sustainability work across their four pillars of focus (Islay and community, agriculture and biodiversity, packaging and waste, and energy) as well as communicating the business’ work in progress. We gave a voice to the whisky and gin brands whilst creating and delivering a new and overarching master-brand look and feel.
“The entire Leap team are a breath of fresh air from start to finish. Their design solutions and optimistic perseverance made us feel we were in very safe hands.”
– Christy McFarlane, Global Brand Manager, Bruichladdich Distillery
