Volans / Reaching new heights with dynamic rebrand


The Brief

Volans is not your average sustainability consultancy. They were the first UK B Corp and their founder has been dubbed The Godfather of Sustainability, responsible for concepts like the Triple Bottom Line. They push the boundaries of what’s possible, inspiring transformative action inside and outside of large corporations. While Volans had a strong reputation and a logo they loved, they had outgrown their very limited brand and visual identity. Without cohesive brand guidelines, they needed a brand system that could amplify their influence, clearly communicate their role, and set them apart in an ever changing landscape.

Our brief was to expand Volans’ brand identity to better reflect their essence — to combine credibility and creativity. The objective was to build a flexible, actionable identity that would inform, inspire, and resonate with senior corporate decision-makers, bringing clarity to Volans’ mission in a way that felt equally at home in the boardroom and at the leading edge of systems change.

Our Solution

To capture Volans’ spirit of emergence and curiosity, we centred our creative approach around “The Magic of Flight” as an overarching concept, incorporating a refined version of their existing hummingbird logo. Inspired by the beauty of the natural world — the iridescent blur of hummingbird wings and the fluid collective movement of starling murmurations — we created a visual language that feels alive with curiosity, co-creation, and forward motion.

The new identity captures Volans’ role as thought leaders and disruptors within the world of corporate consultancy. Through an expressive visual system and unified tone of voice, Volans’ brand now reflects the same sense of curiosity and possibility that they bring to their work.

Deliverables included a full-scale rebrand and website redesign:

  • Brand identity: Logo refinement, vibrant design system, and adaptable image guidelines.
  • Brand book and guidelines: Detailed tone of voice guide, brand application rules, and consistency guidelines to anchor Volans’ identity.
  • Templates and style guides: Cohesive presentation templates, infographic and report styles, and motion elements.
  • Website: User journey mapping, complete content restructure, low carbon web design and build, content writing, and green hosting.
